At Cathedral Preschool the joy of learning and being loved is evident in each child’s smile. Since 1986, Cathedral has been providing private yet affordable early childhood education to three-, four- and five-year-old children in a warm and inviting environment. As a ministry of Saint Stephen Cathedral, the preschool provides a Christ-centered atmosphere appropriate for children of all faith traditions.
The curriculum is designed to be developmentally appropriate for the inquisitive and forming minds of the three- and four-year-old child, as well as for the five-year-old not ready for all-day kindergarten. Basic preschool skills are introduced through thematic units and in large group, small group, and one-on-one activities. Socialization and understanding can be gained throughout the classroom in play and learning situations. Our younger preschool classes utilize the Creative Curriculum, allowing more focus on social-emotional skills. Our older classes use the LiteraSci (now known as Science Start) curriculum, which equips students with the skills necessary to begin kindergarten the following year.
We follow the traditional school year calendar and are closed in the summer. Our school consists of five classrooms and offices in a secure hallway in the McRaith Catholic Center, along with a large outdoor playground. The MCC houses the offices of the Catholic Diocese of Owensboro. This building is the former parish school building, and is located just north of St. Stephen Cathedral on Locust Street.
Based on our current program offerings, we can enroll 36 students in our 3- to 4-year-old preschool classes, and 51 students in our 4- to 5-year-old Pre-K and 5- and older Pre-K classes. Our WrapAround Program can serve 36 students each day.
