Class – Age Requirements
3s – Must be 3 by August 1, 2023, and potty trained
4s – Must be 4 by August 1, 2023; please note that children who are older 4’s/5’s who have not attended preschool before would fall into this class
5-year-old pre-k – Must be 5 by August 1, 2023, and must have previous school experience
All children must be completely potty trained and able to provide a reasonable degree of self-care.
Logistical and Other Considerations
- New for 2023-24: Early drop-off beginning at 7:15 a.m. each day will be offered for the 2023-24 school year. To provide adequate staffing, the early drop-off service will be available for a small added monthly fee. Normal arrival, including drive-up drop-off, will still be available without a fee or signup starting at 7:45 each day. More details and sign-up for early drop-off will be shared with parents, along with the other beginning-of-year school forms, over the summer.
- (Cancelled as of 6/13/2023) New for 2023-24: A 4-day afternoon class for 4-year-olds will be offered from 11:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., contingent upon a minimum enrollment of 6 students. (Cancelled as of 6/13/2023)
- WrapAround Care is available to children up to 5 days per week. Children can attend WrapAround on the days they attend morning preschool. If a child needs to stay for WrapAround on fewer days than they attend morning preschool, that can be arranged if space allows.
- Because of the unique needs of the younger children, as well as staffing and space constraints, 3’s who need the 5-day morning preschool, or preschool with WrapAround, will be in both the M/W/F morning class and the T/Th morning class. This means that curriculum content in the morning classes will have some overlap/repeating for the 3-year-olds who are in 5-day.
- Our 5-year-old Pre-K program is designed for children who have at least one prior year of preschool and are eligible to move on to kindergarten by their age, but are taking another year to prepare and mature. It is not an advanced class of 4-year-old preschool. Both the 4-year-old preschool program and the 5-year-old Pre-K programs are structured to prepare a child for a successful start in kindergarten.
Class Placement, Waiting Lists, Etc.
All classes are filled in the order of receiving the completed forms and fees (registration form, Kentucky immunization certificate and registration fee). Until they are received, your child’s name cannot be placed on a class list. We will make every effort to accommodate your choices; however, due to the restrictions on class size, we may place your child in your second choice of classes. We also cannot make promises regarding teacher preference due to the many factors used in determining class makeup.
If you wish to be placed on a waiting list for a particular class, this is easy to do and doesn’t require the immunization form or registration fee — just complete the online registration form and select the desired class, and your name will be placed on the list. If an opening comes up, we will contact you to see if you are still interested in the class, and if you are, we will ask for the immunization certificate and registration fee at that point. Please keep in mind that class rosters and waiting lists can be very fluid due to several factors — families move out of town for a job, potty training is looking grim for a future student, etc. — so, even though a class currently has a waiting list, it is fairly common for a spot to open up.
Note Regarding Recent Changes in Tuition Structure
In years past, a supply fee equal to one month’s morning preschool tuition was due on July 15 and February 15. Starting in 2022-23, the supply fee was rolled into the monthly tuition so that families’ expenses are more evenly distributed. As part of the change, some supplies that were purchased separately are now included: the school tote bag, school t-shirt, and the WrapAround sheet and blanket. Cathedral also provides all snacks and drinks. Please keep this in mind when comparing Cathedral’s tuition rates to those of other local schools.
In addition to the absorption of the supply fee into the monthly tuition, some changes were made to standardize the increments by which morning preschool and WrapAround rates are set. As a result, some programs increased slightly while others actually decreased, with the goal being to more logically increase rates as needed over time.
For the 2023-24 school year, tuition has increased by roughly 5%. All tuition is collected online via the Brightwheel app on a monthly basis. Tuition is collected for 9 months, from August 1 to April 1.
